cage update june 2012

The weather has been pretty dire over the last year or so since building the cage but hopefully we are in for a more settled winter and spring. It has been productive but unpredictable. The cage has been topped up with lucerne and current plantings are a new crop of various types of peas including snow peas and bush and climbing varieties.

We had an interesting crop of purple podded peas along with some very nice purple king beans that grew up the sides of the cage. There are are various greens still growing strong and coming back into growth now such as Mibuna, Mizuna, corn salad and a very nice fast growing variety of Origano which  is ideal for salads and general cooking. There is a lot of spinach and silver beet coming on now too.

Currently it is raining again and has been hovering around 5-10c during the day and down to about 1-2c at night – with only 2 real frosts so far this month at about  -1.
